They communicate with PCs and other computers through the Universal Serial Bus (USB), providing a convenient alternative to plug-in data acquisition boards. This popular new bus supports a wide range of peripherals, from keyboards and printers to digital cameras and data acquisition systems.

Up to 127 devices can communicate with the PC simultaneously through the same USB port. The bus allows hot-swappable, true plug-and-play operation, where the PC autodetects the addition or removal of any USB device. Therefore, you don't have to worry about IRQ settings, DMA settings, I/O addresses, or any other configuration prior to using one of these data acquisition systems. Simply plug it into your PC and start acquiring data!
