LANpoint CE Vehicle Mount Application

at ITW Shakeproof

ITW Shakeproof is the USA's largest manufacturer of lock washers, spring washers, retainers and engineered custom stampings and wired forms. When ITW Shakeproof needed to verify shipments, they implemented a system using the Intelligent Instrumentation, Inc. LANpoint CE Vehicle Mount terminals. The LANpoint units are connected to "pack mules", 24Volt electric carts that carry pallets on which orders are built. Using Symbol 304PRO 2D scanners, ITW Shakeproof employees implemented a custom 2D barcode label to streamline the scanning process from 4 scans per box to 1 scan per box, to verify the accuracy of the entire shipment. Verification data is collected and posted real-time to ITW's EDI system to provide order status to tier 1 automotive and other customers.

This system has helped ITW Shakeproof meet strict automotive production shortages, thus avoiding potentially costly penalties. It also reduces warehouse staff workload, and increases the accuracy of order fulfillment. 330,000 cartons are shipped error-free annually.

The RF LANpoint CE data collection terminal was mounted in front of the Pack Mule operator. The prompts guide the operator to verify the shipment as it is being built from stock located in the warehouse.

The LPA200 heavy-duty adjustable mounting arm was used for the mounting. This allows the terminal to be pivoted to any angle comfortable for the operator. The power is supplied directly from the Pack Mule batteries via a cable fabricated by the ITW Shakeproof technical staff.

ITW Shakeproof utilized another handy feature of the LANpoint CE terminal. As seen in the photo above, the 2D scanner is powered by one of the two 5V accessory take-off connectors that is part of every LANpoint CE, via a cable that was fabricated by ITW Shakeproof. This eliminates the need for a separate power source for the scanner.
